This is me and my favorite author of all time, Jeffery Deaver.I got to meet him today at one of his book signings and it honestly made my freaking week! This is a very talented author, he can hook you into a story like you wouldn't believe and puts a new novel out every year. I used to hate reading, it was honestly a battle to get me to read a pocket sized book, but when I picked up one of his 400 or so page books I couldn't put it down and finished it in under a week. That is really fast for me. I've read all but the last of his Lincoln Rhyme novels and loved them all to death, my favorite is the first of the series, The Bone Collector. If you're looking for a great crime thriller with a less than perfect hero, I'd strongly suggest any of his Rhyme novels, they are fantastic.
His book signing wasn't for one of those, though, it was for Carte Blanche, the newest 007 novel. He's one of the 5 authors to continue the Bond books and from what I understand it's a pretty big deal, but I'm honestly not surprised. To quote my dad, "this guy is a rockstar."
And, he's a really nice and funny guy. He did a speech before signing the books and it was pretty funny, he talked us through some writing processes and some of the challenges in taking a work that someone else has started and making it your own while keeping to the original style. How to make both sets of fans happy. And after that, he signed the books, but it wasn't just an assembly line where he signs whatever you put in front of him and signals for the next person, no, he actually stopped and talked to every person in line.
I told him about naming my wheelchair for Lincoln, he thought that was pretty neat, and about the Rhyme and Dance novels. He even signed "from Lincoln and Amelia" for me, I thought it was pretty dang neat and I can't wait until he comes back next year. Maybe I'll have a copy of The Bone Collector by then and he can sign that one, I got a signature on The Broken Window and I'm pretty excited about it.
