Book Review

I'm going to try a book review sort of thing today, I've done a movie review and a energy drink review, so why not a book one? I actually finished this book over a month ago, but I really want to review it, so I figured better late than never, right?

Redemption by Mike Wilkerson

This book is fantastic. If you're wrestling through scars from your past or current wounds from getting chewed up by life, I highly highly recommend this book for you. I think it was written for a small group study, so there are passages of scripture to read with each chapter and questions to think over and answer. I used them to turn it into a little Bible study and it worked out wonderfully. The book uses the story of Exodus to help you tackle day to day things like idols in you heart and blaming God when things go wrong, and it makes you look at the well known story in a completely new light.

Personally, I've grown up a church kid, I know most of the stories in it like the back of my hand and if I'm not careful, I let my in-n-out knowledge of them take out the punch. This book helps put back all the punch; making you stop and think about what the people were feeling when this was going on -- putting yourself in their shoes when they were told to take leaps of faith like walk across the parted Red Sea or trust God to bring you the exact amount of food you needed everyday without being able to save any for a fall back plan. Exodus is a great book of the Bible, one of my favorites now, and this book is a great and well written complement to it.

I will warn you, though, he doesn't get soft on you, most of his questions go deep and hit hard, so it wont always be fun, but it will be well well worth it in the end, trust me.

Ta-Da! My first book review.

  1. I'd recommend reading "The Red Tent" by...uh...some lady who I can't remember her name, sorry /c: It is the story of Jacob told from the perspective of his daughter...so, a VERY different look into the lives of the famous dudes, and those who were rarely seen or heard from (or even about)...women.
