Here are some funny stories from my community college.
- In my speech class we were asked to introduce ourselves and I decided to introduce Cale too since people were starting to notice the wheelchair and getting uncomfortable. It went over well, he was very accepted. So much so that they all remembered his name by the next class...and forgot mine. Some of them still address me as Cale.
- At my campus there is another lady who has a wheelchair and a service dog. Apparently this dog is crazy about wheelchairs and loves people in wheelchairs and was really excited to see me. I didn't do anything with him at first because he was working and you're not supposed to touch working dogs due to the fact that it can confuse them and make them not do their job as well. The lady eventually called me over so I could say hi because she saw me smile at the dog and the dog was so excited about having me there that he wasn't going to focus on his work until he met me and got to check out my chair. It was pretty cute, because he was stoked to see me, like kind of hopping back and forth, and then I wheeled up to him and he turned all shy because he thought I might not like him. I convinced him I did like him through a lot of telling him how pretty he was, petting him and letting him lick my hands. I love making new friends, human or otherwise. :)
- After my ECE lab got out I was sitting and talking to my mom when I noticed this goth looking guy in the corner. Since I love the goth look and try to rock it as much as I can, I looked up to smile at my creepy brother in fashion. Then I noticed he had a crystal ball that he was moving around on his hand, like he looked like David Bowie in the Labyrinth, it was pretty dang awesome. I was honestly blown away by this guys massive amount of orb rolling skill. And he was playing it up too, he'd look at me, waggle his eyebrows and then do this mind blowing trick before turning back and flashing a smile. I would have cheered except I was just so stunned by it all...then he messed up a trick and threw the ball across the room. Fortunately it was pretty sturdy so we didn't have to pick up chunks of glass.
- I have a new friend. He is a Wookie named Baldbacca and he gives awesome hugs. I've run into him pretty much every day I'm on campus and every time he'll spot me from across the room, run up to me, pick me up out of the wheelchair and give me the biggest bone crushing hug you can imagine. He's spun me before, shook me around like a rag doll another time, and last time he did it all in super slow motion. It's pretty great, I love my Wookie friend.
